A couple of months ago we asked when the photograph below was taken. It is note-worthy as it shows the car park and the Church green partially cleared, and we wondered when the clearance happened ? We had a response from a member of the History Group which helps towards an answer to this question and also answers the question of what happened to those gravestones that were not used as paving around the Church. Yes, that's a pile of smashed up gravestones and a bulldozer ! The photograph dates from between 1970 and 1972, and the culprit was the incumbent vicar Rev. Selby, for whom this was not the first piece of wholesale vandalism - he was also responsible for the demolition, without permission, of the Kildwick gazebo; which was not even on Church land.
